.KEY MESSAGES...
* Breezy afternoon winds may produce minor impacts to fire, travel,
and recreation today.
* Hot temperatures this weekend into early next week with a
moderate HeatRisk across lower valleys.
* Dry weather continues into the weekend with low odds of
afternoon showers and thunderstorms early next week.

.DISCUSSION...
Transient low pressure will support another afternoon of breezy
winds today with westerly gusts peaking around 25-35 mph. Ridges and
wind prone areas may even see gusts near 40 mph in mid- to late
afternoon. These winds will overspread lower elevation RH reductions
to 7-15%, resulting a brief period of elevated to locally critical
fire weather conditions from the Sierra Front into the W NV Basin
and Range. Bumpy flights and choppy lake waters are also among
potential impacts this afternoon and early evening. Winds weaken
after today with seasonably warm and dry weather to end the week.
A notable warm-up remains on track this weekend with Monday favored
as the hottest day, but temperatures have trended slightly warmer in
the latest forecast suite. This gives communities in lower valleys
of northeast California and western Nevada a better chance of triple
digits highs Sunday through Tuesday. Temperatures will likely be a
few degrees shy of daily records during this stretch, but a lower
record high (89F) will make it easier for KTVL to set a daily record
on Sunday with a forecast high of 90F. Records aside, it`ll be hot
this weekend into the first half of next week, which will pose a
moderate (2 of 4 levels) HeatRisk for many lower valleys. Be sure to
make your weekend plans accordingly and practice heat safety
precautions if you`ll be in the heat for extended periods.
Deepening low pressure will induce a cooling trend from midweek
onward, lowering temperatures back to seasonal averages. Dry weather
prevails through the weekend, but chances of afternoon showers and
thunderstorms increase marginally early next week.

.AVIATION...
Breezy afternoon winds and LLWS impacts continue to be the main
weather concerns today, especially at KRNO-KCXP-KMEV where SW/W
gusts approach 30 kts. Lighter winds are expected after today with
widespread VFR conditions prevailing through at least the weekend.
There is the prospect of density altitude issues for W NV terminals
early next week when triple digit heat is becoming increasing
likely.
